Every motion identity needs a logic. Ours came from inside the game itself.

In NBA 2K, the court's key is the painted area where the action concentrates. Seen from the player camera, it reads as a polygon in perspective: a flat plane with depth and attitude. That shape became the foundation. Type riding geometry that feels dimensional without being 3D. A visual language rooted in the game, translated into every frame of content.

Typography was the central force. Bold, graphic, unapologetic. Words that land with the same energy as the brand. The shape carries them, tilts them, gives them character. The result feels like the game stepped off the screen and into the feed.

Playfulness is easy to say. It's hard to design.

The brief called for wild and unpredictable, but motion that collapses into noise is just noise. We explored two directions, each built around different approaches to how type was arranged and how it moved. Both drew on the same visual world: a rich cast of 3D characters and cultural objects orbiting the type. Animated basketballs with faces. Pigeons. Traffic cones. Boba tea. Nothing too absurd if it earned its place in the frame.

What we were really testing was rhythm. How type entered. How colour shifted across a palette of deep maroon, acid lime, hot magenta, lavender and orange. How the planes moved with just enough variety to feel alive, and just enough consistency to feel like a system. Crafted chaos, every frame intentional.

A motion identity is only as good as what happens when someone else uses it.

The NBA 2K League needed content at scale, across YouTube, streaming, social and live events, produced by editors and creators who weren't in the room when the identity was built. Every creative decision had to be encoded into templates they could trust.

We built a complete motion toolkit designed for the specific contexts it would be used in. The goal wasn't to hand over files. It was to hand over creative confidence: the ability to produce content that felt like the brand, every time

The NBA 2K League relaunched as a fully-formed entertainment universe, and the identity launched with it. Bold type on moving planes, across YouTube, social, streaming and live events. A visual world as alive and unpredictable as the content it carried.

The relaunch drew widespread coverage across publications including Variety, ESPN and The Verge, framed as a landmark moment for where gaming entertainment is heading. Competition as lifestyle. The court as culture. A brand built for the feed. Built to scale. Built to last
